About the leader
My name is Ted Randall.
I am a husband. My wife and I have been married for just under 20 years at this point and have loved almost every moment of it. No other relationship on this earth has made a larger difference in my life for the better. I am a much better human based upon the loving relationship between my wife and I.
I am a father. My wife and I have 4 kids ranging from ages 16-9. Being a parent is an absolute thrill! It is impossible to know exactly what to expect as a parent which provides a real reason to stay as grounded as possible. On any given day, you could be told of an excellent grade or a damaged car. Parenting has been an excellent adventure and challenge.
I am a counselor. Having been to counseling as a man in my early twenties to overcome some personal and relational struggles, I benefited so much I decided to pursue it as a career. My experiences will not be your experiences and my life map will not be yours. My hope is that you will benefit from counseling the same way I did.
I am a handful of other things. I’m a son, brother to 4 siblings, guitar player, lousy fisherman, lover of popcorn and a cold beverage. I love to do karaoke in the privacy of my own home and love to BBQ and make homemade pizza. I have an extreme fascination with all things restoration including boats, cars, homes or humans. I love watching Youtube videos about tiny houses but haven’t quite pulled the trigger yet.
Lastly, I am a follower of Christ. I put my trust in Christ as a little boy and have been following Jesus ever since, sometimes more closely than other times. My favorite thing about Jesus is that He accepts me just as I am, providing me an important example of how I am to treat and respond to others. I mention this to let people know that I welcome faith topics inside of marriage and completely respect those who choose to not address faith as well.
About the company
Rooted Marriage is an idea that started in 2007 when I left Florida to pursue my masters degree in counseling at Dallas Theological Seminary. I knew I wanted to help people and found some inspiration in a garden. One of the most beautiful gardens on earth, The Arboretum, is one of my favorite places in Dallas, TX. For 6 years, my family lived about 1.2 miles from there and would frequent the garden often.(We would ask our family for a season pass for Christmas, you should steal that idea!) The Arboretum was beautiful to take in as a spectator, but was a massive undertaking for the amazing folks that tended to it. I had the idea there that most people love a beautiful landscape, but not everyone is equipped to garden. Most people love the beautiful spaces but some just don’t have a vision for it. I likened it to marriage. Most people want to have an amazing marriage, but lack the required skills and vision to make it happen. Most people want to be incredibles sons, daughters, friends, neighbors and co-workers, but lack the skills and vision to accomplish it. I created Rooted Marriage to help people cultivate meaningful relationships that they could enjoy.
